Debutto in grande stile per Raffaele Marciello nella prima giornata di test sul circuito di Abu Dhabi. Il pilota della FDA aveva impressionato fin dal turno mattutino al termine del quale aveva ottenuto il quinto riscontro a meno di un secondo dal leader, Alexander Rossi. Nel turno pomeridiano Lello ha fatto ancora meglio andando a strappare la miglior prestazione dell'intera giornata abbassando di oltre un decimo il tempo dell'americano.

Benissimo anche Carlos Sainz Jr. che è riuscito a togliere addirittura un secondo e sei decimi al tempo della mattinata facendo registrare la terza prestazione assoluta. Si sono visti proressi importanti da parte di Stoffel Vandoorne e Arthur Pic, capaci di migliorare di oltre due secondi, dopo un debutto non impressionante.

Va sottolineato che, per il resto, i tempi non hanno subito grosse variazioni con miglioramenti che viaggiano nell'ordine dei 4-5 decimi come accaduto agli esperti Johnny Cecotto e Daniel Abt.
